Chapter One

Sunday Morning

"As it says in the Bible, Let everything that has breathe praise ye the Lord.  We should be grateful that we have food and clothing, but most of all salvation," Eld. Hayes continued in his usual manner. The congregation responded with the usual Amen, yes sir, and praise Him.  "Thanksgiving is coming up.  Now everyone decides to be thankful, but if you haven't been thankful before now, you're in bad shape," Eld. Hayes stated with authority.  The congregation responded with enthusiasm.

I looked at Terri and whispered, "Did you see the size of that turkey that Dad brought home? That thang." Terri interrupted, "Please be quiet. I'm trying to hear the pastor." "Any other time, you would be talking," I retorted.  Terri's nostrils flared as she said, "Boy please!"  This caught Mom's attention and she said, "Terri, Be quiet."  Terri said, "Yes Mame" as she shot a look at me.  I giggled and Mom said, "Kevin, you too."
